FINDING PJ 'Finding PJ' is a series of images shot while filming for Jamie Hazelden's first episode of the recently launched 'The Australian Bushman' series. Jamie met PJ by chance on a previous 4wding expedition. Intrigued by his life story and knowledge of the local area, the decision was made to travel back to the area where they first met to find out more. The crew headed North over the Daintree River from Cairns, into the forest towards a small town called Wujal Wujal. From Wujal Wujal, the crew had to rely on points marked on a GPS map and Jamies memory of previous travels to find PJ's house. Finding PJ's driveway entrance proved to be harder then expected, and after a few hours of driving dirt roads through the rainforest, it was eventually found. With nightfall approaching, the decision was made to set up camp and tackle PJ's driveway the following day. PJ's driveway is a 3 kilometre track which winds its way up to the peak of the Gold Hill area. Cyclone “Ita” (a category 5 tropical cyclone) had wreaked havoc on the area only a few weeks prior, and it had taken PJ 7 days to single handedly clear the fallen trees in his driveway with a chainsaw. In wet conditions, the crew worked their way up the tight windy track, that would challenge an experienced 4 wheel driver at the best of times. They eventually made it to the peak of the mountain to be greeted by PJ and his excitable companion Casey.
